If you’ve made a New Year’s resolution to get fit, then congratulations, you may have just made the first step on a lifelong journey that will improve your well-being.
But we know that keeping New Year’s resolutions are tough. And staying on a regular fitness and exercise routine can be especially difficult.
Why is that?
We think that one reason why so many give up on fitness routines is that they don’t find the work out that “fits” them. The people who stay with fitness routines are the ones who manage to fall in love with their activities. They’re the ones who don’t see it as just another chore they have to do for an hour after work or every weekend.
For many people, that means finding something that challenges, mentally as well as physically. Professional athletes speak of “getting in the zone,” a state of mind where they are performing at a high level yet are mentally relaxed and focused. Some psychologists call this “flow.”
Others call it having a “mind like water.” That’s similar to this quote from Bruce Lee:
“Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend.”
To those who are familiar with it, this state of mind can become addictive. It’s something many look forward to.
So how can you obtain this mind like water state? There are many ways. One is through Kenpo karate in Ohio. At Tracy’s Kenpo karate in Ohio classes, we try to help each student achieve that sense of “flow” or “zone” or “mind like water” state or whatever you want to call it. The name’s not important. But we do think that lessons for Kenpo karate in Ohio will help you develop a holistic and healthy workout routine.
